KATHERINE HOOVER (1937)
Katherine Hoover, amerikanische Komponistin, Dirigentin und Flötistin, wurde 1937 in West Virginia geboren und lebt heute in New York. Für ihr kompositorisches Schaffen wurde sie u.a. mit dem National Endowment Composers Fellowship ausgezeichnet. Sie schrieb Werke für Orchester, Kammermusik sowie Vokalmusik, die von berühmten amerikanischen Orchestern und Kammermusikensembles und Solisten, wie Julius Baker, Eddie Daniels, und Sängern der Metropolitan Opera aufgeführt wurden. Viele ihrer Kompositionen – u.a. Kokopeli, Lyric Trio und Canyon Echos – gewannen den Wettbewerb der National Flute Association.
Mehrere Werke spielte sie selbst als Flötistin auf Schallplatte ein. (Leonarda Productions)
Sie lehrte an der Manhattan School of Music. - Die Dokumentation der Probenarbeit und Aufführung ihrer Dances and Variations im Kennedy Center gewann einen Emmy Award .
