KATHERINE HOOVER (1937)

Katherine Hoover, an American composer, conductor, and flutist, was born 1937 in West Virginia and resides today in New York. Regarding her producting, she is the recipient of a National Endowment Composers Fellowship. She wrote works for orchestra, chamber music and vocal music, which were performed by famous American orchestras and chamber music ensembles like Julius Baker, Eddie Daniels, and singers from the Metropolitan Opera. Many of her compositions –Kokopeli, Lyric Trio, and Canyon Echos et al. – have won the National Flute Association’s Competition. Some of her pieces she recorded herself as a flutist (Leonarda Productions). She taught at the Manhattan School of Music. The commissioning, rehearsing, and premiere of her Dances and Variations at the John F.Kennedy Center were the subject of an Emmy-winning documentary.

Regarding the recording of her work Lyric Trio by the Meininger-Trio she wrote: "Dear Sir or Madam, I recently received a CD done by the Meininger Trio, which included a piece of mine. The piece is my Lyric Trio, and I am very happy with the results. The performance is terrific. The other two pieces also bring me greatpleasure.
