Gorjan Košuta, violin

was born in Ljubliana, Slovenia, where he studied 10 years with Ciril Veronek. He continued his studies in the US at the Eastman School of Music, Rochester, New York and in Germany at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne with Igor Ozim until 1971. The personal encounter with Ivan Galamian and Max Rostal has been very important for his artistic development.

By means of concerts which led him through nearly all countries of the world, he becomes an appreciated chamber musician and soloist. The main focus of his artistic activities is directed to concerts with the Arcadia-Trio together with the cellist Miloš Mlejnik and the pianist Rainer Gepp. This trio achieved awesome results both with the public and the reviewers. Working together with the Arcadia Trio, Gorjan Košuta took countless broadcast productions and recorded several CDs. Lastly, he released all the piano trios by Ludwig van Beethoven.

After having been assistant of Igor Ozim for five years, Gorjan Košuta was appointed as professor at the Hochschule für Musik in Cologne in 1978 and in 2001 as dean of the department ‘orchestra insruments’. For many years he has been directing international mastercourses in Slovenia, Austria, Greece, Korea and the US.

In 2008 he was named Professor of Violin at the Academy of Music in his home town of Ljubljana, Slovenia.

Since his childhood Gorjan Košuta has also felt comfortable playing viola. In the varied programs of his recitals and concerts with different chamber music ensembles he enjoys switching between violin and viola.

Due to this ability Gorjan Košuta forms the ideal extension of the Meininger-Trio.
